Depending on who you believe, reality TV personality Kim Kardashian and singer Kanye West may or may not have a prenuptial agreement before they formally wed.
The pair sealed their engagement earlier this week in what some might describe as the only way possible — in a high-visibility, high-cost, soon-to-be-released-on-video, event at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
According to HollywoodLife.com, citing an unidentified source, the singer is so thrilled that his proposal has been accepted, and he’s so much in love, that he isn’t even considering a prenuptial agreement. Indeed, according to this source, West think a prenuptial agreement would be tacky and offensive.
But turn to TMZ, and the story is different. That outlet, citing multiple unnamed sources, says a prenup is in the works. But the sources are swift to add that it is not because they’re worried about the possibility of divorce. Rather, they will be drawing up the necessary contract because, as business people with a lot of wealth, they know it’s the smart thing to do.
The report says they will have a joint account for living expenses. But the prenuptial agreement will ensure that the wealth that each of them is entering the marriage with will remain separate.
How much each of the celebrities may be worth may also depend on who you believe. Forbes says West is estimated to be worth $20 million, and the publication pegs Kardashian’s value at $10 million. Meanwhile, TMZ puts the value of West’s assets put his worth closer to $90 million and Kardashian is said to be worth about $40 million.
Regardless of who or what one believes, one thing legal experts likely agree on is that where high-asset individuals are concerned, prenuptial agreements are wise to consider.
