Consulting a financial planner before divorce

A financial planner may be a good investment for a person in California who is seeking a divorce. With such a professional, people may be able to get a better grasp of their current financial situation as well as a better understanding of various scenarios that might occur with different types of property division. For example, a person might be committed to trying to keep the house after a divorce. However, a financial planner might demonstrate that after considering the cost of upkeep and insurance, this would be a poor choice in the long run. Other investments may yield far more money over time.

Domestic violence and child custody decisions

Children in California can suffer from a range of emotional problems after being exposed to domestic violence. Even if one parent's abuse was directed at the other parent and not at the child, the child is likely to experience depression, anxiety, anger and low self-esteem after witnessing the behavior. According to a national survey, people who were exposed to domestic violence as children are three times as likely to commit acts of domestic violence in their adulthood.

Protecting children during a divorce

California parents who are going through a divorce might be concerned about how the experience will affect their children. Though it is impossible to completely shelter children from being affected by a breakup, there are ways parents can show their children how important they are and make the whole process just a little bit easier.
