Court grants child support cut for Mathew Knowles, Beyonce’s dad

When courts establish levels of child support, the intent is to do what is right for the best interests of the child and what is appropriate to what each parent is able to contribute.

Over time, though, circumstances can drastically change. When they do, the terms of support deserve to be revisited and possibly modified in order to reflect the current realities. Making the case for such modifications is something that should be managed in consultation with experienced legal counsel.

That appears to be wisdom followed by Mathew Knowles.

His name may not be too familiar to readers. He’s the father of singer Beyonce Knowles. He happened to be her manager up until 2011, when she fired him.

The singer indicated in an interview in February that the reasons for her action were mostly to do with his not recognizing her ability and desire to make some decisions for herself. There had also been speculation that the firing had something to do with Mathew Knowles having fathered a child outside of his marriage, but it’s not clear that had anything to do with it.

Regardless, the firing did represent a change in circumstance that prompted Knowles to go to court for child support modification. Earlier this month, it was reported that he got what he was looking for.

According to The Associated Press, Knowles had been obligated to pay actress Alexsandra Wright $12,000 a month in child support for the son he had with her. But a Los Angeles Superior Court judge recently reduced that to about $2,500. The reason cited was that Knowles’ income has significantly dropped since being fired by his daughter.
